Texting Creates a Hazard That Drivers Should Be Held Accountable for
If there is one thing that is sure, it’s that not all drivers are safe on the road. Some people are just not as concerned with their safety or the safety of others as they should be.
This is abundantly clear when you see a driver who is texting behind the wheel. Texting and driving has been proven to be extremely dangerous, yet many people continue to do it today. Statistics from 2019 show that nine out of 10 teens do expect to receive a response to a text or email within five minutes. That leaves little time to pull over to respond, so many simply respond as they drive.
Around 43% of teens drive and text regardless of the risks, and they’re not the only ones. Adults also drive and text, which means that many of the drivers on the road around you could be looking away, responding to messages and generally not be paying attention to the road.
In total, 6% of all drivers who were involved in crashes with fatalities were distracted when the crashes took place. Over 58% of teens who crash do so because of distractions.
Knowing all of this, it’s important that you are able to make an at-fault driver pay for their actions if you are injured because of their inattention. All drivers know that they need to pay attention to the road and not to other tasks, yet they still choose to put others at risk.
Our website has more on what you can do if you’ve been involved in a crash with a distracted driver. It’s your right to pursue a claim to hold them accountable for their actions.
