Police Blame New Jersey Car Accident on Impaired Driver
The holiday season is in full swing in New Jersey. With the holidays come holiday parties and an increase in the chances of encountering a driver who may be under the influence. A serious car accident happened early one recent morning that resulted in the injuries of eight people.
Two cars collided on a local road in Ewing at about 2 a.m. One vehicle, a 2018 Kia Optima, reportedly crossed the center line and struck an oncoming vehicle, a 2007 Dodge Charger. There were five students from the College of New Jersey in the Dodge. The driver of the Dodge was a 20-year-old who had been chosen as a designated driver for the evening.
When first responders arrived at the scene of the crash they had to free the injured victims who were trapped in the vehicles. There were three people in the Optima and five in the Charger. The eight people were all transported to local hospitals. Three remain in critical condition, two are stable and the remaining three were treated and released. The cause of the accident remains under investigation though it is believed that the driver of the Optima may have been driving under the influence.
The holidays are a time for celebrating with friends and family. A car accident is never welcome, but it can be particularly tragic during the holidays in New Jersey. Friends and family may start Go Fund Me pages to aid families who are dealing with the aftermath of the accident, but it may also be a good idea to seek the advice of an attorney who has experience in dealing with personal injury law. A civil lawsuit against the party deemed responsible may provide compensation for medical costs, lost wages and other verifiable losses.
