New Jersey Work Comp: Officer Loses Life While on-the-Job
New Jersey has lost another one of its fine troopers in a tragic auto-pedestrian accident. This individual was reportedly struck by a vehicle while he was tending to a crash scene. While nothing can replace the life that has been lost, the victim’s loved ones may be entitled to collect his work comp benefits, which could certainly help as they figure out how to move forward.
According to a recent report, the trooper — a 31-year-old male — was called to the scene of an accident on Interstate 295 on Monday, March 7. While working the scene, the trooper was struck by a passing vehicle which was being driven by a 22-year-old female. This individual is said to have stopped and is reportedly cooperating with authorities. As of the latest report, charges have not been filed against the driver.
The trooper was taken to an area hospital with severe head injuries. Sadly, he died the following day. He had been a trooper for approximately two years. He was engaged to be married and leaves behind a 9-month-old son.
Work comp death benefits are in place to assist employee family members following tragic events such as this one. An experienced attorney can help this family make sure that it receives the maximum benefits available for the circumstances. If the family so chooses, it may also pursue civil actions against the driver believed responsible for the victim’s death. If negligence can be established in a New Jersey civil court, a monetary judgment may be awarded.
