New Jersey Turnpike Crash Leaves 1 Dead, 4 With Injuries
A car accident that occurred in New Jersey on June 13 left one person dead and four others with injuries. According to the report, the incident took place on the New Jersey Turnpike near exit 14C just outside of Jersey City at approximately 6:16 a.m.
Troopers with the New Jersey State Police stated that the driver of a Lincoln Town Car struck the back end of a Toyota as they exited the a tollbooth. The impact from the collision caused the Toyota to travel through a median where it was then struck by an oncoming vehicle. A 45-year-old man who was a passenger of the Toyota died at the scene of the crash as a result of the injuries he suffered. Four other people were also injured in the accident. They were transported to Jersey City Medical Center with injuries that were described as not life-threatening.
It was not known what caused the driver of the Lincoln to strike the back end of the Toyota. It was also not known if the authorities planned to file charges or citations against the driver for their part in the incident.
While the cause of this particular crash is not known, many of these types of accidents are caused by drivers who are distracted or who are not paying attention to the vehicles in front of them. Even if the authorities fail to file charges against them, those who are injured in a car crash that was caused by a distracted driver may be eligible to file a personal injury lawsuit against them. While this type of lawsuit cannot result in a jail sentence for the driver, the lawsuit will potentially allow the injured to seek financial compensation for the injuries they suffered.
