New Jersey Teenager Killed in DUI Accident

Police in New Jersey arrested the driver believed responsible for hitting and killing a teenager in Burlington County. The alleged DUI accident occurred May 22. The teenager and a friend had been walking off the side of the road when he was hit.

According to reports, a 42-year-old male was driving his vehicle just after midnight near East Federal Street and Route 130 South when he struck a pedestrian. The 17-year-old male and a friend had been walking near the road when he was struck. Sadly, the teen died at the scene of the crash.

The driver did remain at the scene and has cooperated with authorities. He was arrested and charged with reckless driving and impaired driving. This case is still under investigation, though. At this time, it is unclear if court dates have been scheduled in regard to this matter.

When a DUI accident results in fatality, as in this case, the victim’s surviving family members may be devastated emotionally and financially. Losing a loved one, especially one so young, is difficult for anyone. Thankfully, in accordance with the laws of New Jersey, this victim’s family may have legal recourse. A wrongful death claim may be filed against the driver believed responsible for this tragic accident in an effort to hold the driver accountable and to seek some sense of closure. If negligence can be established to the court’s satisfaction, compensation may be awarded to the teenager’s family for the numerous losses they have experienced, including funeral expenses and emotional distress — among various others.
