Man Killed After Tire Flies Off Car

A man in New Jersey was killed on March 26 after a vehicle lost its tire and caused a four-car crash. The fatal car accident took place in Denville while the 77-year-old victim was traveling in an Audi along Interstate 80 with his 66-year-old wife. Although the man’s wife was injured in the crash, her injuries were not life threatening.

According to a police report, the fatal car crash occurred when a man driving eastbound in a gray Dodge Ram lost a tire on his vehicle at around 7 p.m. The tire then struck the victims’ Audi at mile-marker 37.6. Afterwards, the Audi collided with a Mercedes and a Ford F-350 that was pulling a trailer. After leaving the roadway and hitting a guardrail, the Audi landed back on the highway.

The driver of the Audi was declared dead at the scene while his wife was transported to Morristown Medical Center with bumps and bruises. No injuries were sustained by the driver of the Mercedes or the driver of the Ford truck. No criminal charges have been filed as a result of the accident, but the investigation is ongoing.

The family of someone killed in this kind of accident may decide to file a wrongful death lawsuit against the responsible driver. A driver may be held accountable for causing a fatal crash by failing to properly maintain their vehicle before driving it.
