Head-On Crash in New Jersey Injures 5
On Sept. 4, a 42-year-old woman with critical injuries received aerial transport to Morristown Medical Center following a 9 p.m. accident, according to authorities. Reportedly, the incident occurred on County Route 565 near mile post 10.6 in Sussex.
That is where the 42-year-old woman’s vehicle, a tan 2000 Saturn, collided head-on with a Mitsubishi Lancer driven by a 21-year-old man. Authorities stated that the driver of the Lancer also suffered serious injuries and received emergency transport via medevac to St. Joseph’s Hospital in Paterson.
Furthermore, three passengers in the Lancer suffered injuries as a result of the collision. One of the passengers in the Lancer, a 23-year-old man, reportedly suffered a broken leg. Emergency personnel transported the two other passengers, a 20-year-old man and a 21-year-old man, to Morristown Medical Center for treatment.
According to authorities, there were no charges filed in connection with the crash immediately following the event. However, authorities indicated that the incident is still under investigation.
As this case exemplifies, head-on collisions can be particularly violent, inflicting severe injuries upon the people involved. Because accident victims must often cope with not merely physical afflictions but also the financial stress that accompanies compounding medical costs, these types of collisions may give rise to civil action. For, accident victims have a right to pursue a personal injury claim if there is significant evidence that the crash was caused by another party’s actionable behavior.
In many cases, these accidents are caused by negligent or reckless drivers. Sometimes, however, the cause of an accident is completely outside of the drivers’ purview. For example, poorly maintained roads might be a major contributing factor in an accident. When that is the case, accident victims may pursue a personal injury lawsuit against the governmental body whose negligence led to the dangerous roadway.
