DUI Accident Leads to Death of New Jersey Pedestrian
Roadways can be dangerous for motorists and even more so for pedestrians. This is especially true when drugs or alcohol are consumed. A DUI accident can lead to serious injuries for those involved. One New Jersey man was recently killed after being struck by a driver allegedly under the influence.
According to the police department, the woman believed to have caused the collision was driving on a local road near an apartment complex. The victim was walking along the side of the road at the time. The driver failed to maintain her lane and drove off the road, striking the victim with her car. Police stated that multiple 911 calls were received regarding the incident.
Tragically, the victim was pronounced dead at the scene. The woman apparently responsible was arrested and is currently awaiting a hearing. Authorities revealed that a blood sample showed that she was on several narcotics at the time of the crash. She has been charged with one count of second-degree death by auto and driving under the influence.
When tragedies like this occur, families may not know where to turn to deal with the emotional and financial burdens they may suddenly face. Whether criminal charges are filed against the responsible parties, families may still choose to file wrongful death lawsuits in civil court. If their claims successfully prove negligence, they could be awarded monetary damages that could help pay for medical bills, funeral costs and any other expenses related to the collision. Anyone who has lost a family member in a DUI accident could consult an experienced New Jersey personal injury attorney to obtain more information and assistance in filing this type of claim.
