Driver Responsible for Fatal DUI Accident Arrested
The driver believed responsible for a fatal car crash in New Jersey has been arrested and is facing numerous criminal charges. One person is said to have died in the DUI accident. Two other individuals reportedly suffered injuries.
According to reports, this tragic incident occurred the morning of Dec. 26, in Passaic County. A 32-year-old male was allegedly driving the wrong direction on Route 46 when his vehicle collided with a small SUV. The driver of the SUV — a 28-year-old male — died in the wreck. Two passengers in the victim’s car reportedly suffered unspecified injuries. Their current conditions are unknown.
The driver thought responsible for this incident is said to have been driving while intoxicated. While the investigation into this matter is still ongoing, this individual has been arrested and charged with DUI resulting in death, assault by auto and reckless driving — among other criminal charges. If convicted, the potential penalties include a lengthy prison term and fines.
Drunk driving-related auto accidents are highly preventable, yet they happen all too frequently in New Jersey and elsewhere. Driving while impaired is a choice. When that choice results in injury or death, victims or their loved ones may, according to state laws, have legal recourse. In this particular case, the family members of the deceased and the injured victims may file civil claims against the driver believed responsible for this DUI accident. Those claims in which negligence can be established to the court’s satisfaction may result in awards of monetary judgments for any documented damages.
