Defensive Driving Not Always Enough to Stop a Car Crash
Defensive driving is widely advocated as protection against an accident. Expecting the unexpected can help to maintain one’s focus behind the wheel and allow for fast reaction time to avoid a crash. Unfortunately, some situations cannot be anticipated and a resulting car crash may be unavoidable.
An accident that resulted in a serious injury on the New Jersey Turnpike happened when a disabled vehicle rolled into the path of another car. A tow truck driver had been in the process of securing the disabled Land Cruiser in order to load it onto a flat bed truck when the Land Cruiser rolled across three lanes of traffic, causing the crash. The man who was injured in the crash suffered serious back injuries that required a series of injections and eventual spinal surgery.
A lawsuit was brought against the tow truck company. The case had been scheduled to go to trial but a settlement was reached before the trial began. The settlement reached included $905,000 to pay for injuries and damages sustained in the accident.
Defensive driving, wearing a seat belt and staying alert in New Jersey are all ways to help prevent a car crash from happening. Even when drivers observe these practices, unforeseeable events can cause horrific accidents. If a person is seriously injured as a result of an automobile accident, one doesn’t have to feel alone. There are legal options available to that can assist with compensation for medical costs, lost wages and other verifiable losses.
