1 Teen Killed, 1 Injured in Recent New Jersey Car Accident
Motor vehicle collisions can be devastating for victims and their families. A recent crash resulted in the death of one teen and left the other severely injured. A New Jersey man is now facing charges after his alleged involvement in the car accident.
The two teens were reportedly riding a bicycle together at the time of the incident. For reasons that are still unclear, a car passing the boys struck them. The impact caused one of the teens to be thrown over a fence and land approximately 30 feet from the crash. The driver then fled and abandoned his vehicle a few blocks away.
Tragically, one of the teens died at the scene. The one who was thrown from the bike was taken to hospital in critical condition. The driver believed to be responsible has not been taken into custody by police at this time; however, they do know his identity. When apprehended, he will likely face criminal charges. It is unclear if his two passengers who were apprehended will be charged with any offenses.
When a victim is injured in a car accident, he or she — or his or her parents, in the case of a minor — may consider filing a personal injury claim in civil court against the party or parties believed responsible. Similarly, surviving families of deceased victims may be able to file wrongful death claims in civil court. These types of claims can provide monetary damages that can be used to pay medical bills, funeral costs or any other related expenses when successfully litigated. Anyone interested in learning more about these types of claims can speak to an experienced New Jersey attorney.
