Risk of Car Accident Part of St. Patrick’s Day Revels

St. Patrick’s Day has come and gone but for some the memory of the annual rite of spring will not fade quickly. Alcohol has become, for some, an integral part of the day’s festivities in New Jersey, and along with this comes the increased chance of being involved in a serious car accident. One such accident happened in Newark early on the morning of St. Patrick’s Day.

A 20-year-old man was driving around the area at about 1 a.m. The car struck another vehicle causing significant damage to both vehicles. The driver of the other car was pronounced dead at the scene. A passenger in the 20-year-old’s car was seriously injured and was transported to an area hospital for treatment.

It is not known if alcohol or speed contributed to the cause of the crash. The accident happened at an intersection and may have involved a failure to yield. The driver has been charged with aggravated manslaughter, vehicular homicide and assault by auto. The crash remains under investigation.
