Drunk Driving Accident Results in Pedestrian’s Death
Roadways can be dangerous enough without the added effects of intoxication. Unfortunately, some drivers still choose to get behind the wheel after consuming alcohol or drugs. The resulting accidents often lead to serious injuries or fatalities. One recent drunk driving accident took the life of a New Jersey pedestrian.
Officials said that they suspected drunk driver’s vehicle struck the pedestrian as he was attempting to cross the street. A patrolman with the local police department spotted the car after and noticed damage to the windshield and a headlight. He then came upon the victim laying dead in the road, surrounded by debris.
The officer later found the driver standing by her vehicle in a parking lot. She was arrested and charged with suspicion of driving while intoxicated. Police said that more motor vehicle and criminal charges are pending. The crash remains under investigation at this time.
Whenever a loved one is killed in a collision, the surviving family may choose to file a wrongful death claim in civil court against any party or parties believed to be responsible. When this type of claim successfully proves a defendant negligent, plaintiffs are then typically awarded monetary damages that can be used to help pay medical bills, funeral costs and cover any other expenses related to the crash. Anyone who has lost a family member as a result of a drunk driving accident could contact an experienced New Jersey personal injury attorney to acquire more information and to obtain assistance in filing this type of claim.
