Drinking, Driving and Night Can Cause a Tragic Car Crash
Summer is in full swing and there are all kinds of activities on New Jersey roads. Bicycles, motorcycles and even skateboards require drivers to exercise additional caution, especially after dark. Accidents can happen in the blink of an eye and have tragic outcomes. Such was the case in a recent car crash in Hamilton that occurred after midnight.
A 13-year-old boy was skateboarding on Nottingham Lane when a driver crossed the center line and struck the skateboarder. The boy was transported to an area hospital. He later died as a result of his injuries.
The driver of the car was not injured. Reportedly, he did fail a sobriety test though his blood alcohol level was below the legal limit. Under New Jersey law, a person can still be convicted of drunk driving if he or she has been drinking and one’s driving is impaired, even if the person’s BAC level is below the legal limit.
The sudden death of a loved one, especially a child, is a horrific experience for the family and loved ones to endure. Once the initial pain and shock of the loss begin to subside, a family may want to look for answers and closure to help them cope with their grief. A conversation with an experienced personal injury attorney may begin to yield some answers regarding the circumstances of the car crash. A knowledgeable lawyer can review the facts of the accident and help advise his or her client on what legal options may be available.
